ROSACEA and COUPEROSE

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory eruption of the flush areas of the face and especially the nose that affects over 20 millions people in the United States alone.

The nose and cheeks are the most frequent areas of involvement but it can also involve brows and chin. If it includes the eyes and eyelids it is known as ocular rosacea. It is most commonly seen in middle aged women but the most severe cases are seen in men.

There are four types of Rosacea: Type I involves redness only; Type II consists dilated blood vessels; Type III is pimples and pustules; Type IV is hypertrophy of the sebaceous glands of the nose.

The etiology of Rosacea is not known, but hormones do play a role. There is a high incidence of Rosacea at menopause. Rosacea is stimulated by alcohol, hot drinks, spicy foods, stress extreme heat or cold and smoking. Until now, there is no real cure for Rosacea. However we carry some excellent products and practice very effective treatments to calm and control the uncomfortable side effects, like dryness or redness of the skin.

COUPEROSE

is characterized by dilated capillaries, especially on the nose, cheeks and chin. The dilatation is due to a deterioration of the elasticity of the capillary walls.

The etiology of couperose is due to sunlight, extreme hot or cold temperatures, genetics, thickness of the skin, spices, alcohol and smoking.
